Celebrating Vizslas Close to Home
A Regional Specialty is a breed-focused event hosted in a specific region of the country. For Vizsla Canada, Regional Specialties provide an important opportunity to celebrate both Smooth and Wirehaired Vizslas while bringing together owners, breeders, handlers, exhibitors, performance teams, volunteers, and breed enthusiasts in a more accessible regional setting.
While the National Specialty is Vizsla Canada’s premier annual conformation event, a Regional Specialty plays a different — and equally valuable — role. It helps build connection, participation, and breed pride closer to home.
More Than a Dog Show
A Regional Specialty is more than a set of classes in the ring. It is a gathering point for the Vizsla community.
It gives exhibitors and owners the chance to showcase their dogs among others of the same breed, under judges selected for their experience and understanding of breed type, structure, movement, temperament, and soundness.
It also gives members and newcomers a chance to meet, learn, volunteer, cheer from ringside, ask questions, and better understand what makes our breeds so special.
Regional Specialties help showcase:
- breed type and correct structure
- sound movement and athletic ability
- temperament and ring presence
- promising puppies and young dogs
- experienced specials and veterans
- breeder dedication and long-term planning
- the depth and future of the breed in each region
Why Regional Specialties Matter
Regional Specialties help keep the national breed community active and visible across Canada.
They make breed-focused events more accessible to members who may not be able to travel to the National Specialty each year. They also help strengthen local and regional connections among Vizsla owners, breeders, exhibitors, sport partners, and future members.
These events support:
- member participation
- breed education
- responsible ownership
- volunteer engagement
- sponsor visibility
- regional community-building
- national club growth
- recognition of Smooth and Wirehaired Vizslas across disciplines
A strong Regional Specialty helps build a stronger National Specialty — and a stronger Vizsla Canada.
Who Should Attend?
The Regional Specialty is for more than exhibitors.
You are welcome if you are:
- a current Vizsla Canada member
- a Smooth or Wirehaired Vizsla owner
- a breeder or future breeder
- a performance or field competitor
- a junior handler
- a future Vizsla owner
- a volunteer
- a sponsor
- someone who wants to learn more about the breed
- someone who simply loves Vizslas
Whether your Vizsla shines in the show ring, the field, obedience, rally, agility, scent work, tracking, therapy work, or as the household’s most dedicated couch supervisor, a Regional Specialty is a chance to connect with the broader Vizsla community.
Why Enter?
Entering a Regional Specialty gives dogs and handlers valuable experience in a breed-focused setting.
For puppies and young dogs, it is a chance to gain confidence and exposure. For mature dogs, it is an opportunity to showcase quality, conditioning, movement, and breed type. For breeders, it provides a meaningful way to present their breeding programs and see how dogs are developing over time.
And for everyone involved, it is a chance to celebrate the breed together.
Why Support the Regional?
Regional Specialties are made possible through members, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, donors, and supporters.
When you enter, attend, volunteer, sponsor, or share the event, you help support:
- breed education
- member connection
- regional participation
- national visibility for Smooth and Wirehaired Vizslas
- future Vizsla Canada events
- recognition of dogs, handlers, breeders, and owners
These events are an important part of what a national breed club exists to do: bring people together in support of the breeds we love.
