On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Smooth and Wirehaired Vizslas gathered at the Saanich Fairgrounds in British Columbia for the Vizsla Canada National Specialty.
With Fabricio Pastor judging conformation and Candice Jensen judging Juvenile and Veteran Sweepstakes, the day brought together promising puppies, accomplished veterans, proven field dogs, breeders, exhibitors and friends from across the Vizsla community.
The quality of the dogs in the ring was unmistakable—but the photographs from the weekend also capture something equally important: the community surrounding them.
There were dogs preparing together at ringside, handlers cheering one another on, children enjoying time in the ring, an overflowing prize table, custom Vizsla Canada tote bags, a generous potluck meal and evenings spent visiting around the campfire.
That is the National Specialty: competition, certainly, but also connection.

The National beyond the ring
The awards table was a celebration in itself, filled with beautiful rosettes, beds, toys, treats and thoughtfully assembled prizes. The custom Vizsla Canada tote bags—featuring both the Smooth and Wirehaired Vizsla—were an especially fitting reminder that both breeds and their people are at the heart of the club.
The potluck brought everyone together after the competition. Tables were filled with food contributed by participants, while exhibitors, breeders and friends had time to sit down, reconnect and enjoy one another’s company.
Later, conversations continued around the campfire. Dogs relaxed with their people, stories were shared and the competitive intensity of the day gave way to the easy companionship that makes specialty weekends memorable.
Those moments may not appear in the marked catalogue, but they are every bit as much a part of the National.
