Whether through field tests, hunt tests, NAVHDA, training days, or hunting partnerships, field work gives our dogs an opportunity to use their bodies, minds, and instincts in a meaningful way.
Conformation: Preserving Structure and Breed Type
Conformation is about more than beauty.
The show ring is where dogs are evaluated against the breed standard — including structure, movement, balance, breed type, condition, and overall soundness. For a sporting breed, correct structure is not decorative. It matters because form supports function.
A Vizsla should be able to move efficiently, cover ground, remain athletic, and stay sound over time. Conformation helps breeders, owners, and judges assess whether dogs reflect the physical qualities that support the breed’s purpose and future.
When done thoughtfully, conformation is not about chasing trends. It is about preserving the essential qualities that make a Vizsla a Vizsla.

The Role of Vizsla Canada
Vizsla Canada exists to promote, protect, and celebrate both Smooth and Wirehaired Vizslas across the country.
That means recognizing the many ways our dogs contribute and excel — in the field, in conformation, in performance sports, and in the homes and hearts of the people who love them.
Our role as a national breed club is to support a broad, balanced understanding of the Vizsla: a beautiful dog, yes — but also a working dog, a thinking dog, a willing partner, and a devoted companion.
Celebrating Versatility
The Vizsla’s strength is not found in one lane. It is found in the combination.
Purpose. Structure. Temperament. Partnership. Heart.
